MCA
GRANTS APPROVAL TO SOUNDOWN FIRE SAFE "QUIET LCF"
LIGHT WEIGHT ACOUSTIC FOAM
The
MCA Structural Fire Protection Unit has granted general approval
under Section 14A.6 of "The Code", for Soundown
Quiet LCF, a very lightweight, highly fire resistant flexible
insulation foam. This approval allows this Quiet LCF to be
installed in all areas where "not readily ignitable"
materials are required under "The Code". Previously,
heavier fiberglass, rockwool, and ceramic fiber insulation
products were the mainstays of the industry to satisfy the
MCA requirements. Now Soundown Quiet LCF provides code compliance
along with significant weight savings and superior thermal/acoustic
performance. With the introduction of Soundown Quiet LCF,
yacht builders now have a material that helps them reach their
weight reduction goals while offering significant installation
labor reductions in a fiber free format. The material can
be fabricated in a wide range of thicknesses and sheet sizes
with many finishing options. Soundown Quite LCF is already
in widespread use, with current projects underway including:
a 50m COGAG Motor Yacht, a 30m Fast Diesel Yacht, 3 Fast Sail
Yachts between 30m and 40m, and a 41m J-Boat Sail Racer. For
more information about this product please contact Soundown
Corporation, 17 Lime Street #1, Marblehead, MA 01945 USA.
